The Directorate General of Immigration (Ditjen Immigration) has just issued a second home visa policy on October 25 2022, this policy is regulated through Circular Letter No. IMI-0740.GR.01.01 of 2022 concerning Issuance of Visas and Limited Stay Permits for Second Homes (SE Second Home Visa).
Until now, the Indonesian government has not issued a special visa for Digital Nomads, but because this type of visa is valid for up to 5 to 10 years, this visa is considered very appropriate for use by Digital Nomads who work remotely.
A. Definition of Digital Nomads
Digital Nomad is a term that refers to the type of work that is freelancing or working in an office but remotely by using the internet. This term is used to describe workers who work remotely and from anywhere.
B. Second Home Visa Requirements
SE Second Home Visa stipulates that in order to obtain this type of visa, there are several special requirements that foreign citizens (WNA) must meet first, these requirements are as follows:
- Proof of ownership of funds in the form of an account owned by a foreigner or guarantor with a value of at least IDR 2,000,000,000 (2 billion rupiah) or equivalent;
- Passport valid for at least 36 months
- Recent colored 4 x 6 cm sized passport photo
- Curriculum Vitae

C. Activities That Can Be Done with a Second Home Visa
SE Second Home Visa regulates that foreigners cannot work in Indonesia with this visa. This means that foreigners with this type of visa cannot open business activities and services with local entities, generate any income through business activities and services in Indonesia, and receive payments to bank accounts in Indonesia.
However, foreigners can continue to work remotely, work as freelancers for companies abroad, or only live in Indonesia as tourists. In addition, foreigners with this type of visa are also allowed to become foreign investors in Indonesia.
After the issuance of this visa policy, foreigners who are interested in becoming Digital Nomads and working in Indonesia can immediately take advantage of this policy so they can stay in Indonesia for a relatively long period of time, this is also of course a step by the government in improving the economy in Indonesia.
